Four months now since everything, well, changed, went belly up more like. It's been four months since Toshiko Sato and Owen Harper were killed. They all knew the job was dangerous but it’s still difficult to recover from such a blow. Now, however, is what the remaining members Torchwood Three must struggle through. Nobody wants to use the word 'replacement' or even suggest that the places could be filled by anyone else. They may not say it but they know it is necessary now. The places must be filled.
The mood in the hub is still somber despite the return of Martha. Everyone knows she can do the job that has been left to her but nobody, not even her, can deny wishing it were Owen chopping away at alien intestines instead. Martha is still making her home as business somehow manages to continue as usual or as close to it as everyone can manage. The rift still keeps everything busy after all and there is a good deal still to be done.
Tosh's desk has yet to be filled. It sits empty when it's not being occupied by Ianto doing his best at pulling double duty. It still needs a new occupant and it must be filled soon if the team is to be able to keep up with what is being demanded of them. Moving on is necessary.
Still, it would be better to see old faces as well as new.
September 2006 saw a change for Torchwood four. This is the century that everything changes and it would seem that not all of those changes are exactly going to be for the better for some. Their rift, just over and outside of Belfast spiked; a major spike that had absolutely no precedence as far as size went. One minute the team was out there, doing what had to be done, and the next minute they were somewhere else entirely. Torchwood 4 was damn good at their job. Keeping track of alien activity in Belfast and keeping it under wraps was child’s play for them. That was until their entire base disappeared.
Now they are God knows where… in the rift obviously, but they don’t stay there for too long, randomly transported to wherever the rift spits them out. The team is lost and scared for their lives. They don’t know how long they have been jumping from time to time, and place to place, but they do know one thing… they can’t survive like this for much longer. They just want to be home.
Stuck in limbo, the team has all but lost hope of seeing that home. They had even lost hope of seeing anything even connected to their home until the rift gave them another surprise as it moved them to yet another location; a familiar stowaway of sorts and, possibly, hope.
